Trustee Opportunities

Constraints on public finances, increased competition for funding & greater demand for services.

These are very difficult times for the third sector in Scotland.

At the Voluntary Action Fund, we believe our role as fund manager is about more than just money.

It’s about developing capacity and building relationships.

If you believe in our approach,
why not become a Voluntary Action Fund Trustee.

The Voluntary Action Fund (VAF) is an independent fund manager with 35 years’ experience of distributing public sector funding to the third sector in Scotland. We’ve distributed £125m so far.

We believe that we make a real difference to people’s lives and communities by investing money, increasing capacity and building relationships. This is the essence of VAF’s More Than Just Money approach.

In 2017-18 VAF will distribute grants worth £12m across Scotland through the following Funds:
• Well-being for Longer in Glasgow Fund
• Promoting Equality & Cohesion Fund
• Equally Safe (Violence against Women and Girls Fund)
• Rape Crisis Specific Fund
• Volunteering Support Fund

This is an exciting time for VAF. We are developing a new Strategy and Brand and working with new partners across the third, public and private sectors.

To support VAF’s continued success we are looking for two new Trustees to join our Board. We are keen to hear from enthusiastic people who want to help the third sector in Scotland achieve even more in these challenging times.

VAF is committed to having a diverse range of Trustees on the Board that reflect the people and communities of Scotland. We welcome applications from anyone who is passionate about making a difference in communities and particularly from groups who are currently under-represented on charity boards in Scotland, such as women, disabled people, ethnic minorities and people aged under 50.
We would particularly welcome applications from people with experience in Research, Equalities and Human Rights, Marketing, Philanthropy and the Private Sector.

We would also like hear from people who have financial management and accountancy experience especially in charity finance, with a view to becoming Treasurer in the future.

If you are interested in applying to join our Board please complete the application form and equal opportunities monitoring form.

If you would like further information please contact Keith Wimbles, the Chief Executive by emailing

Please send a completed application form and equal opportunities monitoring form to by midday 27 October 2017. Interviews will take place on 8 November 2017.
